21st June
Good morning!
Have you read the story of ” The Empty boat “? It’s about a monk who is sitting in meditation with his eyes closed in a boat in the middle of a lake. Suddenly, his meditation is disturbed by being bumped by another boat. He finds anger rising within him and is ready to shout at the boatman who bumped into him; but when he opens his eyes, he finds that it is an empty boat which collided with his own. And that is the moment of realisation for him that ” *Whenever I get angry, the anger is within me. The other person ( or situation ) is like an empty boat.*”
I find that this is so true with my anger too. If I am angry within, anything can act like the ‘bump’….a trigger for my anger ; but if I am at Peace within, nothing can disturb me.
Unfortunately, I find myself getting angry at least once every day !
But I am working on it and hoping that the external bumps will soon not have any effect on my internal Peace.
What is your experience ?
Love,
